Hitori Kakurenbo

The Hitori Kakurenbo, also known as "One-Man Hide and Seek," is an urban legend and paranormal game originating from Japan. It involves summoning a malevolent spirit and playing a dangerous game of hide and seek alone.

To perform the ritual, one must prepare a doll, usually a stuffed animal, and remove its stuffing. Then, the doll must be filled with rice and human fingernail clippings before being re-sewn and wrapped around with red thread. The game begins by placing the doll in a container filled with water and reciting an invocation, inviting the spirit of a departed individual to possess the doll. The doll is then referred to as the player's "partner."

After this preparation, the player must hide somewhere in the house and turn off all the lights, signaling the start of the game. The player must be cautious not to be discovered by the possessed doll. Armed with a sharp object and a saltwater solution, the player must be ready to defend themselves and terminate the game when necessary.

The legend warns that the spirit within the doll is malevolent and can inflict harm on the player. The objective is to avoid being found by the doll until the end of the game when the player must submerge the doll in the saltwater solution, symbolizing its defeat.
